New Orleans Abandoned Vehicles

“Abandoned vehicle” means any motor vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer… That is inoperable and left unattended on public property for more than 48 hours”
New Orleans has rules and procedures for abandoned cars, so first I would recommend checking what your county’s regulations may be. But the general rule of thumb is that a car cannot be left for more than 48 hours.

Most times the vehicle is abandoned due to a car wreck or the car broke down, so there is a small grace period. However, it is not uncommon for people to become negligent or too lazy to retrieve their vehicle. This becomes a major safety hazard depending on where the vehicle has been left. It is also considered a public nuisance.

If there’s a vehicle that has been reported and is still sitting past the allotted time given then a tow company should then be called. Here at ASAP Towman in New Orleans we are always ready for these calls and will remove the abandoned vehicle as soon as possible.
